5. Certificate and Transferability

KVP is issued in the form of a certificate, which serves as proof of investment. The certificate can be transferred from one person to another through a proper transfer process on the following conditions only.

(i) On the death of account holder to nominee/legal heirs.
(ii) On the death of account holder to joint holder(s).
(ii) On order by the court.
(iii) On pledging of account to the specified authority.

6. Tax Implications

The interest earned from Kisan Vikas Patra is taxable as per the individual’s income tax slab. However, the investment itself does not qualify for any tax deductions. 7. Pledging of account

KVP may be pledged or transferred as security, by :

(i) submitting prescribed application form at concerned Post Office supported with acceptance letter from the pledgee.

  • RBI/Scheduled Bank/Co-operative Society/Co-operative Bank.
  • Corporation (public/private)/Govt. Company/Local Authority.
  • Housing finance company.
